The Global Migration Institute and Bridging Divides Journalism Fellowship is an in-person residency at Toronto Metropolitan University for experienced staff and freelance journalists. Fellows spend 20–35 consecutive days in Toronto engaging with migration and integration research, researchers and local stakeholders.
The program supports journalists who cover national or international issues in politics, society, culture or the economy. Fellows may conduct field research and exchange knowledge with researchers, but they are not required to produce stories about TMU.

Application process
- 1Choose relevant Global Migration Institute or Bridging Divides research themes and projects.
- 2Name first- and second-choice academic hosts who are based at TMU; Anna Triandafyllidou cannot serve as the host.
- 3Prepare a condensed CV of no more than four pages and a cover letter of no more than two pages covering motivation, professional benefit, research fit, proposed activities, host choices and proposed dates.
- 4Add two or three relevant work samples and, optionally, a recommendation letter from a supervisor or editor at an outlet that has published or produced the applicant’s work.
- 5Submit through the online portal by the deadline.
