Millay Arts runs the Core Residency at Steepletop in Austerlitz, New York. Each cohort brings together six or seven visual artists, poets, writers, playwrights, screenwriters and composers for focused creative work.
Residents receive private work and living space while joining a multidisciplinary community. The current application round is for two-week or month-long stays between April and July 2027, with work assessed through a blind jury.
Benefits & funding
- The residency cost is fully subsidized and includes a private bedroom and studio, shared facilities, groceries and chef-prepared communal dinners.
- Applicants pay a $45 application fee; selected residents pay a $100 nonrefundable deposit.
- Some named fellowships may add a travel or expense stipend when funding is available, but this is not guaranteed and is not required for Core Residency selection.
Eligibility
- Applications are available in visual arts, poetry, nonfiction, fiction, playwriting, screenwriting and composing.
- The official pages publish no nationality, residency, degree, age or experience requirement.
- Collaborative pairs use a dedicated joint form; group and collective residencies are handled through the March application round.
- Jury materials must omit identifying details, while biographical information is submitted separately and is not shown to jurors.

Application process
- 1Choose the discipline-specific Core Residency form in the Millay Arts Submittable portal.
- 2Prepare the required artist statement, discipline-specific work samples, separate biographical statement and up to three scheduling preferences.
- 3Remove identifying information from the artist statement and work samples, then upload the materials to the appropriate form.
- 4Submit and pay the $45 application fee by October 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time for an April–July 2027 stay.
