Early Career Explorers — Course / Training

Early Career Explorers is an in-person, multi-day leadership immersion aboard the R/V OceanXplorer for professionals at the beginning of their careers. OceanX runs it within its Leadership Immersions portfolio.

Participants examine marine challenges through science, advocacy and collaboration while working with peers and expert mentors. During the 2025 Around Africa expedition, related training included oceanography, eDNA analysis and science communication.

Benefits & funding

A multi-day, hands-on voyage aboard the R/V OceanXplorer combines marine science, vessel operations and digital storytelling.
Participants work with expert mentors and peers while developing professional voice, leadership capabilities and ocean-sector networks.
For the 2025 cycle, OceanX provided airfare, accommodation, a travel incidental allowance and visa-application support where required.

Eligibility

Applicants must be aged 25 or older.
Applicants may have no more than five years of professional experience.
The current official listing publishes no nationality, residency, degree or gender restriction.
Voyage dates and locations vary by cohort and were shared only with selected applicants in the 2025 cycle.
