The Simons Foundation’s Flatiron Institute runs summer software and scientific computing internships through its Scientific Computing Core. Interns work in person at the foundation’s Manhattan offices on original computational projects with a mentor.

The work can involve open-source software, numerical algorithms, GPU computing, MPI, infrastructure and code. The current SCC careers page lists no openings, so the next application cycle is not yet open.

Benefits & funding

  • An 11-week original computational project with guidance from an experienced scientist or supervisor.
  • Opportunities to contribute to open-source work and learn about numerical algorithms, GPU computing, MPI and other high-performance computing topics.
  • Access to coding workshops, scientific seminars, poster-session workshops and intern social events.
  • Housing support near the Manhattan offices may be provided; the current official pages do not publish a compensation amount for the next cycle.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at undergraduate level or higher.
  • The current program page states no nationality, residency, age or experience requirement.
  • Internships take place in person at the Simons Foundation’s Manhattan offices.
