Information on applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship Bilateral Program (Type A)

Peking University uses this route for applicants seeking admission through the Chinese Government Scholarship Bilateral Program (Type A). Applicants first apply to an eligible PKU undergraduate, postgraduate, general visiting, or senior visiting program and obtain a certificate after preliminary eligibility review. They then submit the scholarship application through the authority handling Type A applications in their home country, such as a Chinese embassy or consulate.

The 2026 PKU cycle is closed. PKU states that the scholarship processing authority, rather than the university notice, sets the final Type A application deadline.

Benefits & funding

For the 2026 undergraduate route, the scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, medical insurance, and a monthly living allowance.
The undergraduate route runs 4 to 6 years of study, with Chinese as the medium of instruction.
Some English-taught master’s programs charge more than the scholarship covers, so recipients must pay the tuition difference.

Eligibility

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport and meeting the provisions of the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China.
Applicants must meet the admission requirements of their chosen PKU undergraduate, postgraduate, or visiting-student route.
Chinese-taught undergraduate applicants should have HSK Level 6 with more than 210 points or an equivalent level; PKU recommends its Yuke or pre-university route when this level has not been reached.
The authority processing Type A applications in the applicant’s home country may set additional requirements and its own deadline.
Applicants already enrolled at PKU, except those graduating in 2026, may apply to the scholarship authority using proof of enrollment or their original electronic admission notice.
