The Chinese Government Scholarship Type A supports nominated international students for full-time study at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu. It covers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees as well as general and senior visiting study.

Applicants use either a bilateral route through the dispatching authority in their home country or a designated route through the relevant international organization. SWUFE reviews candidates for pre-admission, while the China Scholarship Council completes the scholarship review and approval.

  • The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, a living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance.
  • Bachelor’s and doctoral degree study lasts four academic years; master’s study lasts two to three academic years.
  • General and senior visiting study lasts up to one academic year, while degree recipients may also receive one academic year of Chinese-language preparatory study.
  • The admission notice confirms each recipient’s final funded duration.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, be in good physical and mental health, and comply with Chinese law and SWUFE rules.
  • Bachelor’s applicants need a high-school qualification and must be no older than 25; master’s applicants need a bachelor’s degree and must be no older than 35.
  • Doctoral applicants need a master’s degree and must be no older than 40; general visiting scholars need at least a high-school qualification and must be no older than 45.
  • Senior visiting scholars need at least a master’s degree or associate-professor rank and must be no older than 50.
  • Available study categories and nomination eligibility depend on the applicant’s home-country dispatching authority or the relevant designated organization.

Application process

    Apply to the appropriate home-country dispatching authority or designated international organization and obtain its scholarship recommendation.

    Apply in the SWUFE International Student Online Service System for a pre-admission letter and upload the required documents.

    Complete the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System application using the agency number supplied by the nominating authority and select SWUFE as the first-choice institution.

    Submit all materials to the nominating authority by its own deadline.
  5. 5
    SWUFE reviews candidates for pre-admission, CSC checks eligibility and qualifications, and the nominating authority communicates the final result.
