GovAI’s UK Winter Fellowship (Research Track) is a three-month, full-time, in-person fellowship in London where fellows pursue an independent research project on a topic in AI governance of their own choosing. Run by GovAI — the Centre for the Governance of AI — the programme pairs each fellow with expert mentorship and adds a seminar series, expert Q&As, and networking. It runs 18 January to 9 April 2027 and welcomes people from government, academia, industry, and civil society.

Eligibility
- Open to all nationalities; GovAI can sponsor a three-month temporary work visa.
- No strict degree requirement, though graduate study, research experience, or policy experience is typically expected.
- Suitable for early-career individuals through to experienced researchers and policy professionals.
- Backgrounds in public policy, political science, computer science, economics, biosecurity, cybersecurity, China studies, or risk management are valued.
- Must be able to take part full-time and in person in London (remote participation is not offered).
Application process
- 1Submit the written application through the online form by 23:59 BST, 12 July 2026 (it includes an automated reasoning assessment).
- 2Selected candidates are invited to a paid remote work test in August.
- 3Shortlisted candidates have a remote interview and reference checks in September; final decisions are communicated in October.
