Benefits & funding

• Student mobility: 20 EUR per day, 70 EUR per week, or 250 EUR per month toward accommodation and board.
• Express mobility for students: 50 EUR per day, 250 EUR for the first week and 100 EUR for each of weeks two and three.
• Teacher and staff mobility: 100 EUR per day, 500 EUR per week, or 1,350 EUR per month.
• Return travel: 330 EUR for Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Åland; 660 EUR for Iceland and the Faroe Islands; 1,300 EUR for Greenland; up to 175 EUR for domestic travel connected to an exchange.
• Intensive courses, development projects and network meetings: up to 100,000 EUR per application round, and up to 300,000 EUR across three consecutive years, paid as a lump sum.
• Inclusion support covers up to 100 percent of the actual extra costs of participants with special needs.
• Up to 5 percent of the grant that is used may go to the coordinating institution for administration.
• The rates are maximums. Each network decides how much an individual participant receives out of its total grant.
• Not covered: general overhead, office equipment, participants from outside the Nordic and Baltic countries, and activities held outside the region.

Eligibility

• Applicants are institutions and organisations working with education in a participating country. Individuals cannot apply for a grant themselves.
• Participating countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, together with Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Åland.
• A higher-education network needs at least three institutions from three different participating countries.
• Student mobility is open to degree students of any nationality studying for a higher education degree up to and including master’s level at a participating institution.
• PhD students cannot take part as students, but can take part as teachers. Researchers are funded only when they teach on a course.
• Student exchanges run 3 to 12 months as full-time study or a work placement, 1 to 2 months as short-term mobility, or from five working days to under one month as express mobility.
• Teacher mobility must include at least 8 working hours of teaching.
• Study visits are for schools and local education authorities: up to five people per organisation, for up to five days including travel days.
• Organisations from outside the Nordic and Baltic countries can join an activity at their own cost.
• No age limit, work-experience threshold or gender requirement is stated.

Application process

   Students and teachers: ask your institution’s international office which Nordplus networks it belongs to and how it selects participants, because Nordplus takes no applications from individuals.

   Institutions: line up partners so that a higher-education network has at least three institutions from three participating countries.

   Optionally apply for a preparatory visit grant, with deadlines on 1 February and 1 October, to plan the project with those partners first.

   The coordinating institution submits the application in Espresso, the Nordic Council of Ministers’ application system, before 23:59 CET on the deadline.

   Two independent assessments follow. Applicants in the February round hear back about three months later, and applicants in the October round about six weeks later.

   Approved networks receive the grant and pay mobility grants to the selected students and staff at the set rates.
