The Student Solidarity Fund provides partial scholarships to University of Basel students experiencing financial hardship. It is financed through voluntary student contributions, donations, and bequests, and its awards supplement the university’s main scholarship fund.
Social Services handles applications confidentially and provides the online form after contact or a consultation. Student representatives on the Regency Scholarship Commission decide awards each semester.
Benefits & funding
- The fund provides CHF 500–1,000 per recipient per semester.
- Support is additional to any award from the University of Basel Scholarship Fund.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be enrolled students at the University of Basel and demonstrate financial need.
- Under the shared university scholarship process, support is generally available from the third Bachelor’s semester or the second Master’s semester and only through completion of a Master’s degree.
- Applicants must first clarify and claim feasible parental support, cantonal scholarships, employment income, and other foundation or fund support; regular academic progress and completion within the standard study period are expected.
- Published parental-income reference limits are CHF 85,000, or EUR 60,000 for parents abroad, when several siblings are studying, and CHF 75,000, or EUR 50,000 abroad, when one child is studying; assets and other justified burdens may also affect the assessment.
- Students completing only a Master’s degree in Basel may generally receive no more than the semester fees because funds are limited; second degrees and postgraduate continuing-education programs are normally not supported.
- There is no stated nationality or gender restriction.
