The German Academic Exchange Service offers this scholarship for postgraduate architecture study at a state or state-recognised university in Germany. Applicants may pursue a Master’s or other postgraduate qualification, or a complementary course that does not award a degree.
The supported fields include architecture, interior design, monument conservation, urban design, landscape architecture and landscape planning. The programme combines study funding with professional exchange and networking.
Benefits & funding
- €992 per month for 10–24 months on a Master’s route, or one academic year for complementary study.
- A travel allowance upon application, a one-off study allowance, and payments toward health, accident and personal liability insurance.
- Conditional support may include rent and family allowances, disability- or illness-related additional costs, green travel support and German-language preparation.
- DAAD does not pay tuition fees.
Eligibility
- Hold a first university degree in an eligible architecture-related field by the time the funded study begins.
- Choose an eligible Master’s or postgraduate programme that has not already begun in Germany, or a non-degree complementary course at a state or state-recognised German university.
- For degree programmes, meet the stated minimum Design/Projects credit share: 45 of 120 ECTS, 34 of 90 ECTS, or 23 of 60 ECTS.
- As a rule, the most recent relevant degree must be no more than six years old at the deadline; DAAD publishes exceptions for documented circumstances that delayed study.
- Applicants cannot have lived in Germany for more than 15 months by the deadline. Application eligibility also depends on the country of origin or current residence selected in the DAAD database; applicants living outside their country of origin should follow DAAD’s residence and prior-degree rules or seek advice.
- Provide the language proof required by the chosen university. German-taught programmes require at least completed B1 evidence with the scholarship application, while English-taught programmes require the university’s specified English evidence.

Application process
- 1From 1 June, select the applicable status and country on the DAAD programme page, then enter the DAAD application portal.
- 2Register, complete the online form, identify the architecture specialisation and upload the CV, motivation letter, academic records, programme-choice form or supervision confirmation, language proof and required declarations by 23 September 2026.
- 3If the formal review is successful, use the link issued by 23 October to upload the requested work samples to the DAAD media database by 4 November CET.
- 4Apply separately for admission to the selected German universities and provide admission before funding begins.
