The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management is an alliance of 22 U.S. graduate business schools and more than 80 corporate partners, founded in 1966 to widen access to MBA education and business leadership. Candidates file one common application and may be considered by any number of member schools at once; those who are granted Consortium membership and admitted by a member school become Consortium Fellows. Each member school decides its own fellowship funding, which may cover up to full tuition and required fees.

Before classes start, fellows attend the annual Orientation Program & Career Forum, where they meet corporate partners and the rest of the incoming class. The Consortium has awarded more than USD 655 million in funding since 1966 and counts over 12,000 alumni.

  • Fellowship funding decided by the admitting member school; it may cover up to full tuition and required fees, and partial awards are also made.

  • A place at the annual Orientation Program & Career Forum before the first year begins — workshops, an employer career forum and private interviews with corporate partners (2026 edition: Seattle, Washington, 31 May – 3 June 2026).
  • Funding is not guaranteed: membership, admission and funding are three separate decisions, and not every Consortium Fellow is offered funding.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or DACA recipient. Applicants without one of those statuses cannot apply through The Consortium.
  • Hold, or expect to hold, a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • A demonstrated, long-term commitment to The Consortium’s mission of expanding access and representation in business education and leadership, evidenced by community involvement, professional engagement and life experience.
  • An official GMAT, GRE or Executive Assessment score sent by GMAC or ETS.
  • Applications are limited to the traditional two-year full-time MBA programs at member schools; Emory’s one-year program is the only exception. Evening, online, part-time and executive formats do not qualify.
  • No work-experience minimum is stated.

Application process

    Register once the application portal opens on 15 August and choose one round — Round 1 (15 October) or Round 2 (5 January). Applicants may enter one round only, not both.

    Complete the common application: academic history with a transcript for every institution attended (screenshots and portal printouts are not accepted), a résumé covering full employment history, Core Essay 1 on short- and long-term post-MBA goals (2,000 characters) and the optional Core Essay 2 (1,000 characters).

    Write the three-part mission essay — mission in action, leadership, and commitment — at 300 words per part.

    Add the school-specific essays for each member school selected.

    Arrange three recommendations: two professional letters in the GMAC Common Letter format, plus one mission-support letter from an objective third party.

    Send official GMAT, GRE or Executive Assessment scores from GMAC or ETS; The Consortium advises sending them 20–25 days before the deadline.

    Pay USD 150 for the membership application plus one program, and USD 50 for each additional program. Fee waivers and refunds are not granted.
