Visegrad–Taiwan Scholarships support V4 PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers undertaking study or research at approved Taiwanese higher-education institutions. The International Visegrad Fund runs the program with Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council.

Awards last 1–10 months and cover research across named technology, health, social-science and humanities areas, as well as other fields. Applicants must arrange an eligible host and submit through My Visegrad.

Benefits & funding

  • The International Visegrad Fund pays €1,000 per month for an approved stay of 1–10 months.
  • Each scholar receives a one-time €1,000 travel grant.
  • The Taiwanese host covers tuition fees; the monthly scholarship is intended for living costs, including any health insurance required by the host.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be citizens of Czechia, Hungary, Poland or Slovakia.
  • PhD-study applicants must have completed a master’s degree and be enrolled full-time in a PhD program in a V4 country.
  • Postdoctoral applicants must hold a doctoral degree, have full-time research experience and be engaged in research activity in a V4 country.
  • The proposed study or research must take place at an approved Taiwanese higher-education institution; an unlisted host can seek NSTC approval.
  • Supported areas include quantum technology, AI and robotics, IT, cyber security, social sciences and humanities, and other fields.

Application process

    Create or access an application in the My Visegrad online system during the open call.
  2. 2
    Arrange a Taiwanese host and obtain an acceptance or invitation letter containing a detailed work plan; it must be no more than three months old when submitted.
  3. 3
    Prepare the highest university diploma and transcript, verified confirmation of current PhD study or research involvement, and two recommendation letters, including one from the current supervisor or research-group leader.
  4. 4
    Upload the application and all required documents in English, or with certified translations, by September 30, 2026 at 12:00 PM CET.
