The York International Scholarship of Distinction is an automatic bachelor’s entrance scholarship offered by York University in Toronto. It recognizes eligible international high-school applicants admitted for the 2026–27 academic year on the basis of their final admission average.

No separate scholarship application is required; applicants apply for undergraduate admission and York assesses them automatically. The award can be renewed or regained across four years when recipients meet the published credit-load and GPA conditions.

Benefits & funding

  • CAD 15,000 is awarded in year one, followed by CAD 7,500 in each of years two, three and four, for a maximum of CAD 37,500.
  • The scholarship is applied automatically at the start of each year level.
  • Renewal or reinstatement requires at least 24 credits in each academic year and a minimum 7.5 GPA, equivalent to B+.
  • The award may be combined with faculty-based scholarships and awards, but not York’s prestigious scholarships.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be international high-school applicants, including applicants with advanced standing of fewer than 24 transfer credits, and have a final admission average of at least 90% or the curriculum-equivalent result.
  • York defines a high-school applicant as under age 21 by the end of the admission calendar year, out of full-time high-school study for less than two years, and without study attempted at an accredited college or university.
  • Recipients must enroll full-time in a York undergraduate program, pay international tuition fees, accept their admission offer by the deadline in the offer letter and satisfy outstanding admission conditions within 30 days after the term begins.
  • Students admitted to Computer Science, Cybersecurity or Engineering are ineligible, except Fall 2026 international applicants who are completing high school under the Ontario curriculum.
  • York publishes no country-of-nationality, residence or gender restriction beyond the international-tuition-status requirement.
