The UN Global Indigenous Youth Forum is a biennial high-level UN forum dedicated to Indigenous youth. FAO and the Global Indigenous Youth Caucus co-host the forum as a space for participants from all seven sociocultural regions to engage with governments, UN bodies, researchers and other stakeholders.

The 2026 session will focus on Indigenous Peoples’ food and knowledge systems, biodiversity, ecosystem restoration and climate action. It has been postponed to the second half of 2026, with exact dates and location still to be announced.

Benefits & funding

  • Applicants selected for FAO sponsorship will have their travel and attendance expenses paid.
  • FAO funding is limited and is reserved for the strongest applications.
  • Indigenous youth may also attend using their own funds or sponsorship secured elsewhere.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must self-identify as Indigenous in accordance with international criteria.
  • Applicants must be 18–30 years old.
  • Applicants from all seven sociocultural regions may apply; regional and gender balance are selection considerations, not separate eligibility restrictions.
  • Selection considers practical work connected to Indigenous Peoples’ food and knowledge systems, biodiversity, ecosystem restoration or climate change.
  • No education, nationality or residency requirement is published.
